Inspiration behind the Leaf Spirits
The very first sculptural piece I made was a Green Woman, back in June 2022. I called her the ‘Green Soul’.
I loved making that piece, but I felt rushed during the process, and I don’t cope well with being rushed. That feeling haunted me for a long time, so I couldn’t even thought about making another one.
After daily walks through my nearest forest, three years later I found myself craving to make a new ‘Green Soul’. But this time, though, it was going to be at my own pace and following my own ideas.
When the piece was finished, I realised its androgynous features and facial marks made it feel like it belonged to its own kind. I called the piece ‘Leaf Spirit’, a peaceful presence that invites us to take our time, reconnect with ourselves and the natural world.
Since then, I’ve created Leaf Spirits using leaves from forests and from gardens of loved ones, each one holding memories from a specific place and time.
They feature bees, ladybirds, beetles and/or earthworms, celebrating the often overlooked essential creatures that keep nature thriving.
Display: Leaf Spirits wall pieces are designed to hang on a small nail with a head. These ceramic beings look lovely on their own or surrounded by Butterfly Spirits or Flower Spirits.
Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss a possible commission.
